Dance Competition
16th June 2013 – UDO Street Dance Championships
This is a fantastic event and you’ll see and meet so many amazing dancers who have a passion for Street Dance like you. Its an inspiration and also very tough. The Judges are often celebrity dancers off the TV or from well known Dance Crews. Some of them even put on a performance!
Location: Rivermead Leisure Centre, Richfield Avenue, Reading RG1 8EQ
Dancers arrive: 9.00am
Competition starts: 10.00am (there is not set order so be prepared to compete very early on if they pick your category)
Parents collect: depending on age young ones go home once competed, Senior dancers we’d hope you’d stay and support each other, normally finished 6.30pm (this can vary depending on how busy)
Bring with you: Its a long day so bring food, drink and something to keep you occupied. Label ALL clothing or property and keep everything with you at all times.

Categories are-
Solos – under 6, Under 8, under 10, under 12, under 14, under 16, over 16yrs
Judged by – dancing in time with the track, dance using a variety of moves, dancers must dance on the spot
Duos – under 6, under 8, under 10, under 12, under 14, under 16, over 16yrs.
Judged by – The majority of the routine performed must be danced together (as in dancers do the same thing), dance in time with the music, dance with a variety of moves, dancers stay on the spot.
Teams – under 10, under 14, under 18, over 18years (75% must be in that age category, if more than 25% are older than the age category then they must compete in the older age category)
Judged by – Variety (what is done is done well and variety of styles used), Musicality and Creativity (original, uniqueness, interpretation of different beats/phrases), Choreography (how difficult choreo is, use of space, spatial awareness and fluid change of positions/transitions), Presentation (energy, attentiveness, enthusiasm, confidence, routine execution and perfection).
To enter let your Jax Dance teacher know you are interested and you will need to create your own dance routine that you can repeat (about 8beats x 8 bars long) and show this to your teacher. Teams will need to be established groups of experienced dancers so speak to your Teacher to find out if you are attending a class that could enter.
Please ask your teacher for guidance if unsure. Auditions may be held in May 2013 to pick out those to take to the competition.
